Ok...I own a 1991 328iS with an M42 Engine...I changed my spark plugs this morning to go on Dan's BMW run...I found that 2 of the plugs had oil all over the tips...so that means the rings are bad. Well then I considered just getting an M20 swap. Does any one know if I need new mounts or if I need to change my current transmission? I have the Getrag 260/5 (E30 M3 Trans.) Any tips please tell me, I am totally desperate for help...

um relax first lol...oil on your plug is not the end of the world...yes its a sign of bad rings yes...no need to get all bent about it though...and second...i dont know anything about that swap hah :P its not going to cause your car to spontaniously combust...

seems like alot of work to do the m20 swap just because of bad ringsreplacing the rings would be easier than swapping. and about the mounts, im pretty sure theyre the same. it would cost bmw alot more to make different mounts for the different cars and what not. instead they just make the engine around the mounts, so theyre probly all the same.
perfectly spoken Devo... :P i say dont worry about it for a while...hah or just rebuild it if it freaks you out that bad.....if you are made of money go for it..

It might not be his rings guys, he could have a bad valve stem and it's entering thru the head. Do a leak down test and get a good idea before you start tearing this apart.
AHHH i figured out wat it was, is was the valve cover gasket!!! yi-yeeahh only like a bill or so to fix thanks for the help anyways fellas i luv these forums :P

lol what i thot, since im still new intot he bmw scene...well i thot the oil was under the spark plugs...which is very very easily mistaken because when i pulled em out the oil dripped off the bottom u kno..so it was my mistake
