if i get an 318i with the M40 engine now, will it be possible to convert it to a M20 325i engine l8r on? and no i cant just get an 325i now because it would waste too much gas compared to the 318i nd i cant afford that!
E30, its all the same body, so you can do pretty much any engine conversion, even up to the 750i 12cyl, but that is pretty much close to impossibly, only one person has done it.
But yes, you can conv to the i6. and yes, it will be faster, the M20 was supposed to be the more economical engine hence the single cam, the M42 was supposeed to be the more 'race' engien hence the dual overhead cam.
So in a nutshell, it is possible to do the conversion, people do it all the time.

Someone actually swapped a V12 into a E30 ? Damn. The biggest engine I've seen/heard of in a E30 is a V8... it was a 340is.

well dont you worry about that, ill out do the 750 engine as soon as i find a cheap rolling chassis, i have a chevy 350 bored .30 over, which will make it a 355 and also will make the car a 358 thats correct a 5.8 liter, it will also have arround 400-500 hp and then im going to cage it, and drive it arround and race crappy hondas id switch it to a bmw engine, but those are soo bloody expensive! anyways thats my to cents
