M10 won't start, please help.

Alright, so I picked up this 1984 318i for 60 bucks.

Checked compression, cyl#1,3,4 all right around 150psi and cyl#2 is at 120psi.

I have spark, and new plugs.

Couldn't find anywhere too hook up a fuel pressure gauge so I just shot a spray of intake cleaner into one of the vacuum lines and it fined up for about 20 seconds. So obviously, it's fuel.

I'm not sure if I'm getting fuel pressure or not, but I'm going to rig up a T fitting to check the fuel pressure hopefully monday or wednesday.

I'm pretty sure it's my fuel pump thats the issue because I don't hear it turn on when I put the key to the on position, but I'm really not sure.

Where is the fuel pump/fuel filter on this car? is it in the tank? external?

Are the any common faults with fuel system's on this car?

I have no idea why, but my engine has electronic fuel injection. Not mechanical like the manual's and specs say. Any idea's?

On my E30, the filter is on the fuel line a way forward from the tank. The pump is in the tank. There is an inspection port accessible by removing the rear seat in my car. Depending on how full the tank is, I would not do that outside of a shop though.

Awesome, thanks.

Is there a step by step on removing the rear seat? I can figure it out, but it's always easier if you know exactly what to do.

The tank only has 10L of fresh premium.

The seat in my car really just lifts out when pulled up from the back edge.

Alright, I'll try that.

Can anyone explain to me why my 1984 318i has electronic fuel injection instead of mechanical fuel injection?

I know it's better, but everywhere I look tells me that my car should have mechanical fuel injection

The rear seat come out with two 10mm bolts on the front of the seat. If you want to get a fuel pressure reading try on the beginning of the rail and T in there is a line that comes from b/t the intake runners I have been fighting with fuel isues from day one with mine also check the fuse/relay that is why i picked mine up for a 100 bucks also you have another fuel pump on the rail under the car behind/below the pass seat and while you are checking that go ahead and change the fuel filter oits like 30 bucks from oreillie auto parts If you ahve any other questions just let me know ive got 2 318I's that i am constantly working on. btw go ahead and change your fuel pressure regulator while your at it its cheap insurance

real mech fuel inject is what is found on a 2002tii.U have jetronic fuel inject.there is a out side fuel pump and a in tank fuel pump. Also check the fuel pump relay were the fuses r kept. Do u have spark? It could also be your cold start inject. or your thrmo time swicth that read the antifrezz temp to tell the cold start inject to put in extra fuel. I know the m10 m30 motors very well.I am going 2 drop a 635csi motor in my 320i e21.Was asking if any 1 had ever done 4 some tips no one has said jak so i am on my own but when i am done i will give as much help with photo 2 any one who needs it the car will b sick like a pit bull on crack! NYC out
