what exactly does a limited slip do I hear two different things from people one is that its like posi track and the other is that its similier to traction control and what does the ratios matter and how do they affect it
Limited slip distributes power nearly evenly to both rear tires. This prevents the tire with the least traction from spinning while the other does nothing, as with the more common open differential. Posi traction is AFAIK more like a fully locked differential which is a more positive way of doing the same thing. The ratios are a separate issue which determine final drive gearing, meaning that it sets up the engine revs at a given speed.
thanks that really clears up my confusion do all bmws come stock with limited slip the guy I bought the car from said that it was put in about three years ago but he also said it had a fuel bump and an oil relief valve and I've never herd of either of these
LSD was an option on most models until recently. At some point, they became found only on the ///M cars. I'm not sure if they can be ordered as an option these days.
