Looking At A 325ix

98k, has alittle tick whiles its running, i assume a valve adjustment could fix that. is it normal for the IX to have a slight whine and somewhat heavy steering while turning???? if not i really dont feel like dealing with a transfer case.... also the stick has some slop to it, if any of you know how to fix it that would be awesome. the guy is asking 2995 and i thnk i should be able to get it for 2500 since there is a pretty healthy dent in the front passenger fender... so if anyone could lead me in the direction of a good place to pick up a fender that would be awesome

The whine, i cant say.. but the slop in the stick is normal i don't think you'll find any E30 with whole brushings... you'll just need to change the brushings and you're fine, you can find this slop in E36's too

The whine, i asked a friend, and he told me it was normal, if it comes from the tranny, change the oil to LSA

I have a 91 and love it..even though it kills me when something breaks down! Your okay with most things in the car but get ready to spend if something goes wrong in the drive train.Even salvage yards rape you for used parts. I never thought the turning was heavy..I love how you can feel that awd just pulling you through hard corners. I love mine!

Btw the price seems about right..see if you can get him down a little because of that dent but and Ix is a rare car so your gonna pay a little more.

Thanks for the replys, i really want the IX since im from MN and i could actually drive it in the winter.... off the top of you heads, what should i look at replacing around 100k if maintaince was sub par all its life?? i really dont think it had that good of maintainace since he said it had been parked a long time when i asked him why the brakes were so squeaky.

in case your wondering how good it will be in the snow..thier better then trucks. Bimmer magazine had a little piece on them over the winter and the editor said the new xi doesn't come close to the ix's ability to eat through snow. He said the new xi is a cozy computer driven unit to help in snow while the ix is a chain driven snow eater. I pulled through some big snow drifts this summer and the ix didn't even seem fazed. It will be perfect in Minn. It was also a pretty expensive 3 series for it's time. It stickered for over 30 grand which 15 years ago was alot for a 3 series.

I have a IX 89 with 278 000 Km and after 6 month of driving it my conclusion is:

Very very cool to drive. On snow, they start and drift exactly how you want. In summer condition, its start very quick and is very stiff when turn.

The very bad side: all shock and the direction part are not the same that other E30...Same think engine oil pan and oil level sensor . So all this part are rare and expensive.

Think to check (my experiance or my what bmw mecanic have frequently see)

-Swevel joint (steering column)
-The mounting of rear shock (they rust and break)
-Link-kit
-The joint between the transmission and the transfert case
-Ball joint (the long ball joint is very hard to change... when break..you change all the suspension table)


So... i you have money to buy the remplacement part...go for it you will have lot fun.... other side... go buy a subaru for snow....


P.S In 2 day i will try it on 1/4 miles...So i will know the real start diffenrence between IX and IS.... I will give you news...
