I've ordered the K&N filter/adaptor kit and am waiting for it. But it looks like there is at least one wire connected to the OEM air box. Where does this go after I ripp the box off to put the cone on.
If anyone has Pictures of this mod done, can you please post it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW
no wires.... :P at least there are none going into my air box...maybe someone put a random wire into it to throw you off haha  anywho the only wire is on your air flow meter...the only problem you will run into is there is no mount in that kit...
Option 1) I dont recomend this one but you can just let it all flop around...lots of
people do haha
ok i have the same car as you and this is what i did!!
btw its pretty getto..
If i can remember right first i had to go the the store and get new nuts becuase on the stock nuts there is an attached washer on it that i couldnt get off due to not having a vice.. it was a pain because i had to go backa couple of times to find the right one.
the cone filter is not made for our cars to start with! With the cone filter on u wont have anything to support your AMF and filter up I have heard people say there is a bracket avalible threw Ebay for the ETA engines but i cant find one. So what i did was i got my dremel out and i cut up the top half of the old filter box untill all that was left was a home made bracket. There are 2 boltss but i ended up having to use just the one due to the fact that one got in the way of the cone filter was. Make sure u leave a little bit of plastic on top so the AMF can rest on it too, for more support.
And for the Senser that is located on the OME airbox.... u can just remount it, or u can do what i did and just let it hang (not the best idea)
good luck! In the end i learned the cone filter dosnt do SHIT if u have a stock car.... im not sure what it would do that if i had a chip, but i dont, and it was a waste of 40 bucks!
Yep... I did the cone filter thing too. I bought the cone by itself (the fool that I am) and then I proceeded to take my air boix apart to see how it mounts. OS then I bought the adapter. But it was the wrong one. SO I had to make a rubber gasket out of an old mudflap to adapter the hole to be smaller. But then the mounts didn't line up. So I had to drill custom holes. But then the nuts had that built-in washer. So I had to go and find some other ones. So now it works great. I got a chip off ebay and did a free flow exhaust upgrade and perf muffler. A buddy of mine suggested that I move my cone filter to get better air into the system seeing as the location of the cone is right next to the rad. So we manufactured a carbon fibre (sorry.. I'm Canadian)(fibre=fiber) pipe that runs it down behind the fog light location. I'll take some pictures later and post them
rolling the CAL your making isnt going to help, as far as i know. It just take the air longer to get to the engine..
the best thing u could do is get a heatsheild from luckas bimmer.. its made of OEM bmw ABS plastic.. so its it doesnt attract heat like most aluminum cheap heatshields.. Unfortunetly his site is down for the for the time, but i bet u could find him selling one off of ebay. U just have to do a little cutting (nothing bad) to make it fit since its made for 88+

HAVE RESPECT FOR YOUR CAR
i kinda bought the REAL thing not some ebay KNOCKOFF
its called a K&N filter buddy...repeat..... K&N filter, not a ebay knock off that will overheat your engine even more than a kn filter would
live and learn
[/b][/quote]
um mine is a K&N filter...HOEMIE.... ck umm BTW you dont know anything about air filters do you?! whether its a name brand K&N or knockoff you know what the difference is?! NoTHING.... :P there literally is no difference...the only thing that matters is the adapter!!! BOOOOO YAAAAA....ohh wait you just wanted to put a k&n sticker on and not feel like a poser right?! :P just playin i wanted to play flame sorry i dont play fair haha but seriously there is no difference and i recharged my filter with k&n oil :nana ohh and i have a plastic heat shield and i didnt end up using it because on DYNO i got more power by moving the filter location completely out of the engine bay...(near foglight)

haha your car wont over heat or blow up without a heatshield you will just not have very good efficiency due to the fact you are sucking hotter air...dont scare the por kid :P Shesh...haha but i def recoment heatshield and/or relocating the air filter...
