Just bought a 1984 325e

Hey i just bought a bmw and its my first one. i want to start fixing it up but it needs a few things first. All the gears work except for reverse i was wondering if anyone new what it could be or how to fix it. or if i just need to get a new 5 speed tranny.

Also when driving it sounds like it needs a carrier bearing or something???

Anything to help thanks.

might be a wheel bearing those can get loud and annoying. and come from the back most likely or through what I have experienced.

does it happen more while shifting?> or just while normal driving? do you notice anything more happening with the sound, like while driving over bumps and potholes?
