jumpy fuel guage

I already did a search, didn't help much.
Yesterday I noticed the fuel gauge wasn't working. So I read a post about conecting the wires from the sending unit and noticed that the needle in the guage went to full. Today I noticed it started working again but it's being all jumpy. Does that means a bad sending unit or it can be a loose wire in the cluster??

thankss

If it went to full with out jumping when shorting out the sending unit harness, your problem is either the sending unit or corrosion between the plug and the sending unit.
