Jack Stands

So, I jack the rear of the car up today to get this new jack stand in place, but when I went to jack-up the other side the whole thing started to lean.
I know that I'm an idiot because the parking brake is only on the back tires, but how do I go about lifting the back end up if I can't apply the front brakes?
Do I have to raise the front end first on another pair of stands and then put the other two stands in place on the back?
I didn't want to have to put the whole car up on stilts!
At least I got the muffler off with just the one wheel off the ground today.
Any advice from the more mechanically inclined? I don't want to end up getting smushed.:

There are few hard points that you can use in the rear, the one I prefer is just before the rear tires, you'll see the subframe mount there. Be carefull the gas tank is inches from there. Along the pinch weld about 12" from the front of the rear tire, you'll see a section that has two bolts going into the pinch weld leaving a boxed area. place the jack stand there.

I put my floorjack under my differential and place the jack stands on either the rear subframe or where the bmw jack goes where the slots are. Also use a wheel chock for the front tires.

Yep, I was gonna try a wheel chock. Thanks for the advice!
