I might have a good lead on an 88 325iX, is there anything i should look out for on these cars

How many k's?I'd run a carfax report first to check on its history a bit.Maybe you can have it inspected,(I highly recommend it)cause they are a rare model,so replacement can cost more than usually.

Differentials,timing belt,steering rack,water pump.Check these first.

I love my ix but understand going into this that if something goes wrong in the drive train it isn't cheap. My trannie shit the bed this year and it cost me 1800 to put a used one in. Here is the big price difference ...I could find a trannie at a yard for like 300 to 350 for any basic e30. I paid a grand for mine...Thiers just nit many out thier so you gotta pay a premium. That being said I really enjoy having a car that not many people have. other then the drive train every thing else in the car is pretty much stock bimmer.
