I've been looking, but still need help

I have a 1985 325e and it needs some power steering fluid. The problems is, I don't know what type. I've searched around and have seen that it doesn't have power steering, or it takes ATF, and other answers that doesn't help me. I just want to know what kind.

The power steering system requires ATF. Any Dexron III ATF is fine. Valvoline and Castrol both make it.

It calls for Dex or Dex II atf.

EDIT: if you put power steering fluid into it, like the idiot who owned mine before me did, it screws up the whole system.

Dex II is hard to find and not produced very much. DexIII is the current version.

Also, Dexron is no longer licesnsed by Chevron so other manufacturers like Castrol have had to change the name of their products. Make sure to read the back of the bottle. Castrol, Valvoline, and Penzoil all have BMW approved oils, so their ATF should be fine as well. I have heard pretty good things about the Valvoline stuff. Im gonna stick with Castrol if i can find it.
