Since my last Thread ive been thinking and I need some help... I want to keep the 2.7 in the 86 325es and put the intake, wiring, injectors, fuel system, and the afm from my 89 325i in it... but i understand that i need to put a chip for my 325es in to the 325i computer and that the intake to head will be ported a lil smaller but other then that it should work... well I think...so what will happend is i will get a stroked 325i i guess you could say.. idk
this is a common swap, but you will have to run the ECU, harness and injectors, and with all this work its going to be useless unless you have an aftermarket or at least an I cam and double valvesprings....

If you have the 89 325i motor put it in. The 2.7 intake ports are about half the size of 325i ports and will allow fuel and oil to collect at the bottom of the runners. (been there done that) It can cause continuous blue smoke at every start up, I thought it was the valve seals but once I took off the intake oil ran down the block, so I put on the old intake and it never smoked again. Plus to do the swap you have to change out the harmonic balancer and mount the I sensor there, and if you have the motor out, you are better off with the 325i radiator. The 325es radiator has the lower coolant hose next to the power steering pump and it has a tendency to cut into hose. Plus you can lose the coolant tank on the passenger side and use the 325i tank that mounts to the drivers side.
It might take a weekend or two, but you'll be happier with the "i" motor.

Here is a pic of the 86es and the corner of the 89 325i, the exhaust im putting in there from the 325i . So the plan is to put the intake, exhaust, fuel pump, computer(not the chip from the "i" the chip from the "e") and engine wiring harness, valve cover, o2 sensor, a few hoses from the 89 325i in to the 86es engine bay... The "i" intake is ported larger then the "e" head so I ordered the "i" intake gasket. If i do have to change the harmonic balancer for the crankshaft sensor then it a perfect time to change the timing belt and water pump!!! Is the only reason I should change the radiator because it is close to the power steering pump?

so you did the same swap and had oil in the intake if so ill do a lil JB welding but then i will need the "es" intake gasket ahhhh
The plan is to get the 86es drivable and on the road... and in the mean time i can pull the "i" motor and send the head off to be ported, and valved, and I will put a radical cam and rockers on there. As for the "i" block I will bore 1mm over and new pistons, maby a stroker bottom end some headers!!! And then swap block and head in to the 86es with everything else already in place... whew cant wait to be to that point in life
