inhibitor switch - BMW Forum

would the inhibitor switch, on my 325i auto , play up and sometime's not allow my car to start, had this problem some time ago, but it vanished, for about six months now it's come back, sometimes will start, sometimes it wont, also can be running and then just stops, turn's over fine but wont start..any help welcome..thank's vet-racer

souds like a loose relay, check under black plastic coover near afm

Air Flow Mass meter

I always get confused between that and MAF (Mass Air Flow) units

anyways, see this little black cover immediately in front of driver side strut tower ?
well, there's 3 relays in there, main, fuel pump and o2 sensor.

afm it's the silver thing with wire, sitting between rubber elbow and air filter box.

The difference between AFM Air Flow Meter and MAF Mass Air Flow is that the AFM measures the "volume" of air by a mechanical door (flapper) the MAF measures the actual "mass" and density of the air by measuring the resistance of a heated filament, the more air passing the cooler it gets and less resistance....

Also check your fuel pump relay too. Check your wires and plugs, if they a very old you may want to replace them older wires and enlarged plug gap makes the coil work harder and heat up then short out causing the car to die.
