I'm new. Please help.

I am new to the forum. I recently ran out of gas and I added 2 gallons to get me going again but it did not work. my car hasn't been able to start since. Can anyone help? I have a 1991 318i manual transmission.

Test the fuel pump first. Pull out the rear seat and there should be an access panel to get to the fuel pump. Please don't smoke while playing near the gas tank. See if there is power at the pump. I have seem a fuel filter get clogged by sediment in the tank when it is run dry but this is rare, if you haven't changed the filter in a while now might be a good time to change it as a bit of preventive maintinance.

after you added gas how long did you crank it for?

I cranked it for about 1 min.

Are you sure you were out of gas and not just really low? Yeah, I'd check for power at the fuel pump. If you get someone to crank the engine for you, you should be able to hear the pump run if you stick your ear up to it.
