Hi, I'm looking at getting an 89 325i/is, and I was just wondering how you could tell the difference, because it's already been de-badged, and it's got different suspension on it. I can say the car has leather, power everything (except sunroof is a crank). any other questions from you guys that I can answer to help figure out whether it's a 325i or is. Thanks in advance, clearly I'm new at the whole bmw scene, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The difference between a i and is is 2 doors vs 4. The sports package has seats that have an extendable leg support and a 3 spoke steering wheel. The is also had a subtle boot spoiler.
just because you have a 2-door does not mean it is an "is", dont believe that. There is a 2-door 325i. If it has a crank sunroof then it is prolly not an "is" i dont think it ever came with a crank. Are you sure it is an '89? does it have sport seats? does it have a rear lip spoiler? what does the front lip look like? post a pic and we can tell you.
but dont listen to these guys saying its 2-door vs. 4-door they have no clue

so my first Bimmer, a 325is, wasn't an "is" b/c it had a crank sunroof? Funny, it said so on the title. there are many possibilities here man... ...maybe i buy all the weird ones

Two wheels or Four, I'm happy as long as the throttle is pinned.
I did look at the pinned post about how you tell the difference, but it didn't help me any, because I have leather, the title says 325i/is, it has power everything except sunroof, that's why I asked, sorry... I can get pictures soon, need a new camera...
The valve cover is different not the color but what attaches to it
m20b27 eta valve cover
m20b25 valve cover
Also the intake manifold is different, the tach is different 5500 vs 7000? Also eta wasn't produced is 1989.
