my 82 320i wont shift into 5th gear and has vibration in 4th at high speed
I just bought it and it had not been on the highway for 10 years is this a fluid change problem or what?
Ideas please

Moved to the E21 section. I would think it's more than just fluid... Good luck with it.

I do not know much about these transmissions. I would assume your synchros are busted if it is not shifting into a certain gear.

Have you let it warm up to full operating temperature first? If it is still doing it, try to get it to operating temperature and then drain it and refill with new fluid. Drive for a few hundred miles and flush again? There might be build up in there.

Otherwise you might need a new transmission.

Lima is a desert and its HOT The car was at optimal temp. Syncos all work fine
Its just NEVER been driven fast for many years and may have had no fluid change ot gearbox cleaning I am going to check I was wondering if others had had similar experiences
Nobody here knows that these cars are built for rally driving on gravel I did it for years in the Yukon and Alaska and still hold the records! Thanx
