New factory parts are more than enough to keep an M20 at proper running temp. The only time I ever saw my old M20 get past 1/2 on the gauge is when I was parked in traffic going up hill leaving L.A. on a 115deg day with the A/C on. If you are having overheating issues you definatly have something failing in your cooling system.

Thermostat, coolant flush, fan clutch, junk stuck in the front of radiator, missing or broken fan shroud, unbled air in the system, faulty coolant cap, these are just for starters.
