Just finished replacing the instrument lights on the center console of my 87 325. The next day, I heard a soft click, and the mystery part (see pic) fell into the storage area in front of the ash tray. Now the air conditioner will not work, and it's green light will not come on.
I took the dash apart again and found that the mystery part is an
electrical contact that travels accross a circuit board just under the
center air switch. (dash vents) It's purpose it to prevent the air conditioning
from activating if the air slider is closed. To prevent icing up I guess.
I simply spliced the two wires from the circuit board together and Voila!
The air conditioning works!
