Just buy one, a factory convertible that is. i think you underesitmate the labor, time and $$$ involved to make the conversion (and there is a chance it would not look that good in the end anyways).
usually everything is different in conbrioles... stiffer frames/bodys (the roof in a hard top provides ridigity the 'vert lacks), diff windows, fenders, usually the windshileld is diffrent (lower), etc... imho, NOT work it.
