Hi guys, i'm kinda new, browse alot, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I wanted your guys opinion if this is a good deal or not, on an old BMW my teacher is willing to sell me.

Its a 1984 325ES
184,000~ miles
Maroon, 6 cylinder, manual trans.
Minor dings and scratches, nothing i really care about
1 Wiper blade does not work (motor runs, blades tries, but doesn't pick up)
And it leaks a little oil, but i'm definatly planning on getting this fixed (Any idea how much this might cost?)

*edit* Also comes with 2 sets of rims, the normal ones, and the mags.

Asking price is 1,500$ USD.

Thanks for your help guys!

Sounds like a great deal to me as long as the oil is coming from the upper part of the engine, then it is most likely just a bad oil cap or bad valve cover gasket which is an easy replace. The wiper blade is bad meaning you need a new rubber replacement or a new wiper arm? Either way not expensive. as for 184k miles. Thats low on a e30. The lower blocks are the strongest of any production car ever made. These are designed to take well up to 400k miles. As for the manual, you might wanna snatch this car up at this price because its hard as hell to find 325 manuals, they are all automatic. The es is a GREAT car, because 1, its a 2.7 liter already, most people stroke theirs up to 2.7-8. You can get some EAASSY upgrades and for CHEAP. For example, getting a used :

I model intake manifold $20-50
I model cam (dunno probly around $40)
ES came with the dual exhaust all the way i believe so your fine there
From what ive heard the I ECU does a nice improvement.
And lastly a new 3.27:1 differential around $300 (this will give a huge improvement to the car)

There are quite undoubtably more things you can scavange off an I but thats all i can think of for now. Es is a nice car!

Welcome BS87

everything fox said is right on, except the 'i' ecu may only be good on 88 super eta's, but i cant say for sure.

even though thats a great deal, see how low you can go. you may be able to get it for 1350 or 1400.

Wow! Tahnks for all the great info guys! I should be going up soon to check the oil on the car, i'll see where it is coming from. And, the wiper blade situation is this. You turn them on, and the motor runs, and the wiper blade wants to move, but it just doesnt. And it definatly a manual, so that good to know that is semi-rare. Also, i was told that there was no ES model in '84, only an e. Is that true? Because if it is, then its either an '84 325e, or an '85 325es.

i think es' started in 86 and they stand out from the other eta's with the 'is-type front spoiler

MrM3 is right the es started in '86, i have a grey one. the only real difference in the m-type steering wheel (can replace any non airbag steering wheel), and the front spoiler. as for the exhaust it is single exhaust the whole way. I would recommend checking the engine mounts i had to replace my '87 is at 160k and the '86 es at 170k, believe me it looks easy but unless you have a lift it is a pain. there are a couple places the oil can be coming from so be sure to check that a little more throughly as well, it could be a $40 part or more pending whats leaking, i've had problems with that too. also check to make sure the control arm bushings are good, they get kinda expensive if you try to go through a dealship, you have to replace the bushing, arm and ball joint to fix the problem. aslo make sure the timing belt has been changed every 60k, bad things can happen if it hasn't been.
those are the things i've come across in my 3 e30's, so take a close look.
the car sounds great though, i love mine and at 175k it runs great, and looks like it'll make 250k

Well guys, i go up to take a final look-see sometime next week, so i'll bring back the news. The only thing i worried about is its so old, beeing an 84... if anything ever goes... it will be really hard to fix. If it isnt hard to fix though and i do buy it i plan on keeping it for many years ot come, and keep on fixing it up.

Also, he says he has never had problems with the timing belt so he still has the *origional* one one So if i do get it, that is defininatly getting changed ASAP

Yeah, thats the only real thing i'm worried about, i plan on getting that changed and the oil checked out ASAP. My plan for this car is to keep fixing it up and keep it in good condition for many years to come.
