Glovebox

About a month ago, my glovebox latch got jammed shut. In the course of attempting to open it, the handle ended up coming off. It didn't really matter until yesterday, when I needed my registration to get an inspection. I removed the screws from the hinge in the back, and had to force the latch away from the box. I don't know whether or not I can glue the box back together, and the latch is still hanging from the dash.

So, I have two questions: how can I get the latch out of the dash without breaking anything else? Also, where can I get a new glovebox with the latch cheaply?

Picked up two handle and latch assemblies from eBay for ~$30 (including shipping). Most of the time with the pick-and-pull BMW glove boxes, they are left behind in the car as you have to drop the glove box to get at more valuable items such as the ECU or the AC evaporator.

I once had a stuck glove box handle I broke off. On the part of the latch that was now exposed, I was able to manipulate a black metal semi-circular clip on the right side to open and close the glove box. I lived with it that way for over a year until I bought the replacement equipment and swapped out the failed parts. If your handle is still intact, you can mate it to the replacement latch. Since I had lost the old glove box lock cylinder, I pried the retaining ring out at the back of the eBay replacement lock cylinder and switched the tumblers around until my key worked in it.

There weren't as many 3-series BMW glove boxes floating around in Vegas salvage yards as I thought.

The exposed glove box latch part on the right that looks like a backwards C is a dull silver metallic color, not black.

We'll now resume our regularly scheduled program....
