It is the inside catch i guess. after the key is turned or the latch is lifted, the lock that opens up on the inside. I can't say its the lock but i guess it is. it has 2 prongs at the top which slide into place and lock keeping the glove compartment locked. thanks for that link, but im still not sure what i need to find

Realoem describes the internal lock as catch-upper part. Parts are easy to find and it's an easy fix.
