getting A tranny change

im getting my new tranny this thursday i dont know how the fuck im gonna put on my tranny can anyone inhere tell me how to steps? im new to Bmw's too i i got a 320i 83 yup yup is it also possible to Change the gear ratio on fith gear...soo i can get a lower RPM .... cuz i hate wen im in the Freeway and im going as fast as other cars and my Car sounds all hardcore BUzzzing and i fell the engine is gonna blow up but yea please help thanxs

You definitely need a car lift.

I assisted my dads mecanic when he got his tranny swapped.

He had to take out the entire exhaust pipe...then jam his hand in there to unscrew this bolt (ya should of heard this guy curse at this bolt..it looked hard)..

then take out the tranny...of course there were other steps which i'm not sure of ...

but thats basically the gist of it.

Dude I recommend you research this deeply or have a professional install it for you, no offense but you seem a little down witted on the mechanical end, but what do I know... You can pick up a Haynes or Bentley manual to assist you to some degree... Good Luck
From what I know you cannot change the synchro gear to anything else due to the fact it would throw off all the other gears. If your engine sounds like its ganna blow in a overdrive 5 speed gearbox then there is a problem, the swap from the 4 speed to the 5 speed is ment to get rid of the high RPM's at highway speeds.

you can probably just buy a rear differential with a slightly taller ratio to get your highway rpms down, of course it'll take away a little acceleration

yea im trying to get rid of the high rpms on the highway i hate that sound sometimes....another thing is there anyway i can put in a new speed - o meter cuz you know e21 tachs only top off at 85...it bumms me out that i know i go faster than 85 i just wanna see my car to go more than that yup well thanxs all keep giving info , opinions , ypu thanxs
