Gas In Parts Of The Car It Shouldnt Be. - BMW Forum

today i was taking the alternator out of my 86' 325e. when i disconnected the intake so that i could get to the alternator better, i notice pools of gas inside the plastic tubing that air is supposed to go through. there were visible pools of gas caught in the ridges of the piping. why is there gas in my intake tubes? and how do i get rid of it?

I think it has something to do with a charcoal canister recirrulating gas vapors instead of dumping it into the atmosphere.

would that expalin me getting 10 miles a gallon?? cause i used to not know why i went from mid to low 20's down to 10 mpg. but then when i saw gas in my intake tubes i thought maybe that had something to do with it. if anyone knows for sure and can tell me what to do/replace to fix it i would really really appreciate it.

the vapors from the gas tank are let into the intake instead of just being released causing you to get better fuel millage if its just releasing them into the air then your loosing whatever you gained by that little system so by fixing it you might gain it back im not really sure how drasticly it effects fuel econamy but you can fix it and find out.

i was thinking about my problem, and i have topped off my gas tank before i knew about the fuel pressure regulator. and i heard that topping off the tank can break it. so should i replace the fuel pressure regulator and the charcoal canister?

what i think i read above is that the charcoal canister releases the gas vapors into my intake right?? so then since gas is in my intake it means that it is being released in the right spot right??
