hey, Im about to change my fuel pump tommorow on my 86 eta, and I was just wondering how many miles people have gotten out of theirs.... I have about 180,000 mi. or so, and this is the first change it has seen, so I think thats pretty good!

i got about 200,000 km out of mine and i dont think it was done, i changed it but later realized it was a kinked fuel line.

220,000 miles: 84 533i and still was working when i parked it into a saturn sl2
183,000 miles: 85 325 and still running
172,000 miles: 89 325i and still running

Yeah, mine (131,000 miles) does that buzzing thing.
Still works just fine, though it's annoying.

Greeting from the New Guy. I have the same issues with my 87 325ic , (119 K) buzzing main pump. Even though the car runs fine, I agree that is annoying as heck. I have read on the forums that a faulty transfer pump will cause this , along with and/or a failing main pump. Is there a surefire way to determine which factor is causing this Buzzing noise from the HP pump ??
Thanks for your time in this matter. Looking forward to learning a lot & helping with what I can.

im not sure what you guys are talking about all the pumps buzz, but it might be a different buzz your talking about....? i like that sounds its really pronounced in the 540's i love those cars, my dad had one it wsa bloody fast and always had the fuel pump whine when you put your foot in it. mixed with the engine ohhh *cargasm* anywho....

This is most definitely not a healthy, normal noise.
I don't notice any problems with fuel delivery, but I'm sure it isn't supposed to be buzzing like it is.
