Bear back and I have a a problem. The right side fog light bulb is dead and I need to replace it. The car is a 1990 325ic and the fogs are not in bumper or air dam, but are suspended below the bumper. I have removed the light lens and the bulb holder comes out, it is brass with the bulb held in a rectangular brass holder and a hot (+12V) wire across the bottom of the bulb. Can I pull like crazy and hope th bulb comes out or do I have to replace the brass assembly with the buld included to go OR (Operationally Ready)once again?

I just replace the fog light on mine and it sounds the same as you described it.
The whole peice (bulb, rectangular holder connected to the circular peice that has the wire comming from it) has to be replaced....I got it from auto zone for just a few $$$.
that is assuming we're talking about the same thing...I drive an 89 325i
I actually tried to pull the bulb from the that rectangular peice and the bulb shattered......so that doesn't work...replacing the whole peice is the only way to go.

Guessing that you don't have aftermarket fogs, the bulb that should be in there is a regular H3 bulb. Also never touch the glass on your fog light or head light bulbs, the oil on your hands messes with the glass and will usually cut the life of the bulb in half.
