Fixing the odometer

My 1985 325e's Odometer stopped working around 240,000. How do i fix the odometer and have it work again without taking it into the shop and have some guy overcharge me?? thanks.

i would just buy a used or refurbished one which will run you about $40. it would cost about $30 to buy a new gear which is most likely the problem. That happened to my odometer around 128k miles and after i bought a used speedo and a new SI board i took my old one apart and found 3 bad gears. It seemed like the grease behind the gauge absorbed into the gears and caused them to easily fall apart
