Yes of course it is possible. All of the E30 BMWs (Except M3) can trade engines all they want even some of the E28 5 series can Swap. Just be sure they have the same tranny(AT or MT)). I know this because I have a 528e engine in my 325is. but if you swap with any ETA engine you might want to think of upgrading valve springs and camshaft. Hope my info helped.

I agree with Dub man, the torque itself you gain is worth a lot. The s14 motor (M3) can be tuned to like 260hp but the freaking torque is still at like 186. The is itself has 160 and going to a stroker you can get close to 200ftlbs or more.
There is no replacement for displacement buddy, very true once you start tuning.
