engine stalling plus strong gasoline smell - BMW Forum

yesterday I was driving and then all of a sudden the car started to stall from time to time but then got the point were it wouldn't go anymore. I started it a few times but the rpm's got all jumpy till it would cut off.
I let the car cool down and started it again, it stayed on but it still had the stalling and then noticed the smell of gas comming from the exhaust. the car doesn't have the cat so I noticed it very quickly

the fuel pump is no more than 5 months old, so I don't think that could be the problem.

btw the car is a 1991, 325iX

any suggestions?

It also turned on the "check engine"(not the one that blinks)

Start the car and pull the vacuum line going from the fuel pressure regulator to the manifold and make sure there is no fuel coming from it. Also check your spark quality.

apparently my problem solved itself. went today to work on the car and first I checked all the vacuum hoses, plug wires, ignition wire, all were fine. then started the car, it still had the jumpy idle so I just pressed on the gas a few times and the stalling went away and the chek engine light switched off. drove it up to my house, no problems on the way.

maybe it was just some dirt in the fuel system?? let see if the problem doesn't come back
