Mechanic says my Mass air flow sensor/unit is bad and wants 700 to fix. Is this something that I can replace easily and get the piece cheaply or should I just let him?
I would go for a used one. I had a MAF issue with my 1988 750 and I bought a used ($90.00 I believe) MAF and solved the problem. My cr would not die, but go into limp mode and was gutless, used MAF solved the problem. Try Vines.com or Active.com to start, there are a lot of good used suppliers on the web. Oh, less tha 30 minutes to change her out.

I ended up getting (before I got this message) a sensor off ebayfor 20 including shipping. Guy said it works fine so I guess I'll drive it until it dies again then upgrade like you said.
