Hello,

I just bought a 325is 1987. I found a 89 325is engine, and was wondering on if it would be an easy swap over... I assume most of the components swap over. Does any one have any reccomendations / tips for this? I was planning on doing the swap this weekend... If someone has done this before, any tips or things you came across?

If someone has even pulled their engine, and reinstalled it, any tips on that would be cool to!

Thanks.

The Engine is 228000 miles old.
Swap is a weekend of work, and less money that a engine rebuild.

I live in CA. Bay Area.

I definatley agree with you on the idea that an engine swap is less $$ than an engine rebuild.

I am currently in the process of swapping mine, E30 325iC and all i can recommend is that you have alot of friends there to help you when you pull the engine.. label everything, try not to strip bolts especially on the transmission take pictures so you can remember how things went together. I live close to the bay area maybe I can come and assist depending on whats happening with my car at the time, If you need help

How many miles and what year is the 325i engine? I'll buy the complete unit from you depending on price/mileage. Email me at Richardd@lundcadillac.com and we can talk about it.

I just did that very same swap this past weekend. I was able to pull engine and transmission together. Label everything. The '89 has the coolant reservior on the opposite side of the '87 so you will have to figure out something there. Also the power brake vacuum hose needs to be longer (if you use the '89 rubber snorkel). I have a dilemma with mine... the '89 engine wiring harness has 4 more 'pins' or connections in it than the '87 harness. Can the '89 harness be used in the '87 without causing any problems? I'm trying to find that out. The physical swap is easy and a little messy. Good Luck. E-mail me at josephr39@hotmail.com if you have more questions.
