engine oil light

The engine oil light on my check control panel by the rear view mirror has come on. From what browsing the internet it seems this light just check the oil level and not oil pressure. Is the oil level ment to be halfway between the two lines on the dipstick or is it ment to be at the top line on the dipstick?
My oil is 1/3 - 1/2 between the two lines on the dipstick. Is this low enough to set of the engine oil light?

Inbetween the lines is correct, I keep mine to the top line and I dont think the light would come on until it reaches near the bottom line, however if you were going around a corner and the light came this is because the oil gets moved to one side so that may have caused it...I had mine come the other day...full of oil to the top line, which is the 2nd time its happened in 3 years, I just put it down the oil level sensor switch, so I wouldnt worry, just put some more oil in until it hits the top line.
