Question Engine Identification

Hello everyone
This is my posting on this forum so please bear with me.
My reason for this post is that Iím hoping I can get some help identifying the motor in my 1988 e30 car. According to Realoem.com the chassis is a 1988 eta. The last 7 digits of the serial # are 4321034 which I understand makes it a supereta but the engine and trans donít support that. I found the 8 digit serial # on the engine but donít know how to identify it. Itís hard to read but here it is, 22806386. I believe the engine/drive train came from a 325is but need to verify the year and engine type so I can order parts. A few things that I do know is, ECU # is 153, dual valve springs, rev limiter and tack redline at 6500 RPM, 2.5 cast into head (exhaust side between #5 & #6 cylinders) 885*** cast into head on intake side but no real identifying marks on block. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The "super eta" was the 2.7l bottom end with special domed pistons and the cylinder head was the same part as the "i" engines had. It however had single spring valves and a different camshaft. The intake manifold was special to the model but the exhaust was the same as the "i". There were some differences in the AFM and throttle body along with a special version of the Motronic 1.1 DME. The standard eta produced 121hp while the super eta was raised to 127 hp with a 5500 rpm rev limit.

The best way to tell if you have a "super eta" is to measure the stroke. Because the numbers are not going to tell you anything, the block is an eta while the head is the "i".

What is your actual production date?

Thanks for replying. 1/88 is the actual build date of the chasis but I don't thiks it's a M20B27 engine. I have an e21 chasis that I race SCCA in and the serial # on the engine was the same as the chasis vin# but it's old enough that it wasn't required to have a 16 digit vin#. Would it have come from the factory with a 2.7 eta block and a complete i head? According to realoem.com it left the factory as a (copy & paste) E30 2-T 325e M20 USA 19880100 L A
Production Code: 1264, batch ID: 47308
Thanks again
