has anyone put e36 brakes onto an e30? what is envolved?

Doesnt fit. What you most likely are thinking of are e30 m3 brake and suspension swap.

Yes e36 brakes will work it's just no a direct bolt on like the M3 stuff.
You need calipers, rotors, control arms, sway bar, rims etc.
For the rear you can use the 318ti or z3 parts.
