E30 Rear view mirror lights?

So I know my E30 was a base model, and of course every once in a while i read, see or hear about extras im missing out on.

So..how many of you have lights in your rear view mirror?


That and do you think my car is wired for it? Im gonna take it apart and see, but has anyone done this?

I gotta change the rear view mirror because its old and doesnt absorb shock very well. Also im getting a new windshield, so i figure its a good time to change this also.

Do you mean the service and warning LEDs in the panel just back from the mirror? If it was never there, I doubt the wiring is in place.

no i have that. I mean they had an option for a rear view mirror with lights built in.

Oh like map lights. Mine doesn't have that either.

Mine isn't INSTALLED. But I have one. Not hard to do. It's funny, it's not attached to the windshield at all, so you don't HAVE to do it at the same time.

hmm. check real oem.

I think it hmight have been a euro option...but i saw a video with a 1991 318 who had it.

^^yea i know its not attached. But i want to do it at the same time. I gotta do things in stages or it never gets done.

it's actually an M3 rear view mirror with map lights, that came as an option on the other e30's. I had one on my 320i and now I have it on the 325e. Not hard to wire, but you do need a snake to feed the wires through the roof. I wired it to the interior lights and works perfect.

my 88 325i has two map lites along the bottom edge...it doesnt attach to the windshield... however i find it too large for the size of the windshield

there is one major problem with maplight rear view mirrors...they all wobble and vibrate so bad you almost cant see behind you...i dont know why but thats the number one complaint i have heard with them..

is there a recommended replacement for this oversized shakin reflector?????? thanks....

yeah it is easy to wire up! just wire it to your interior light... this is a very common upgrade for the e24's.... it is nice....

My 1988 325IS has Map lights on each side of the bottom of the rear view mirror, and they work well. The mirror only vibrates when the whole car is shaking? So I don't see it as a problem, no really my mirror is very stable. I have never had a need to use the map lights yet, but if I need them one night? Mine swivel and focus.

the shakin can be cotrolled somewhat by the adjustment screw on the neck that pushes against the windshield..still feel its too large and it creates too much of a blindspot....thats all for now..

afaik they came with the M interior package
and I got another set lying around in my garage
