E30 Gas Mileage

Ok i keep getting different answers from everybody about this, and i want to figure this out once and for all, officially:

What is the city/highway mileage of the E30 318 and 325?

I have had people tell me such vastly different numbers, and i need to get this straight (as i am looking to buy an E30)

thanks guys!!!

The E30 325i gets about 17 in city/light urban. It gets about 26 maybe 27 on open highway (at reasonable speeds). The 318is should manage 23 ~ 24 city and over 30 on the highway (estimated)

My 318is gets 25mpg in mixed city/highway driving like I stole the car (gotta rev the m42 to have any fun). Highway 30mpg is easy, and if you do it right 35mgp isn't too hard to get to.

the 318 with the m42 i would say 25/30 easy and probably more like 25/32-33 up to 35.

I think the m10 318s get pretty good numbers as well.

i know i am beginning to think that. I had originally thought the E30 325 gets better gas mileage than the E36 325 but i guess i was wrong. I need something with good gas mileage (i commute) and i want a BMW. (and relatively cheap). It sounds like i may be going for an E30 318.

If you slapped a turbo on a 318 would it increase the gas mileage on the highway?

No, and if you use the turbo, mileage will take a cliff dive

really? how so? don't turbos increase mileage? (VW Jetta TDI, Saab turbo, any semi truck)

i know under heavy acceleration a turbo will increase power, and gas mileage will be terrible, but at highway cruising speeds, doesn't a turbo improve gas mileage?

Well, I'm pretty sure a semi truck DOESN'T get good mpg. And a turbo diesel is way different then a turbo gas car.

Yes a turbo vastly improves the performance and fuel milage of diesel engines but in gasoline a turbo often hurts fuel milage figures.

well except Veedubyahs Golf GT eingine - the TFSI which has a turbo and a supercharger as well as direct fuel injection, getting 170 hp out of 1.4 liter and an average MPG of 40-50
