E30 Auto Trans

I found an E30 locally that is said to need an a new auto trans.

I know I know it's auto, but it's in great shape all over, I can't turn it down like this.

So, what could be the issue? Any general ideas? What could this cost me to get it working again?

A first guess would be bad fluid in and/or a bad torque converter.

Well fluid wouldn't be a big issue at all. Just flush and refill correct?

A torque converter I know is a bit more serious. How would I handle that?

Well, let me tell you, I know something about the E30 automatic transmission. Feel free to ask particulars and I'll try to assist....

If the torque converter has gone which is very unlikely when you start her up and put into R or D it will stall. If it engages in D and doesn't go any where it could be the forward clutch goosed or the output speed sensor.

Worse case .... replacement box or rebuild

Get it home first and report back with what its doing.................

Is it the old ZF 4HP-22 model?

no doubt the clutch packs are burnt....figure $1500
