Drive shaft help

Hey, my name is andrew and i just picked up an e30. its a 1987 4door auto 325i, and ive collected most of the parts to do a trans swap(trans, driveshaft, clutch, pressure plate, rear diff). im doing the trans swap because the car is in great condition and i could not find one that was manual in anywhere near as good condition.

anyway i picked up a driveshaft, but i need to replace the Center Support Bearing because it is in bad condition. but i was wondering how exactly to take apart the driveshaft. there is a small piece that goes around the driveshaft right near the center support bearing that has a hex on it for a wrench im guessing, do i need to loosen that? if i do will it just slide apart?

yes but they dont provide instructions on how to take it apart and I dont want to brake anything so I figured i would seek the help of someone who has done this before.

Is this the prop shaft you are talking about....as opposed to the two drive shafts that actually fit between the rear wheels and the diff? I think you are referring to the centre bearing support, about half way down the length of the car?

Remove the entire shaft and check/change the bolts anyway seeing as you changing the transmission. Spray it with WD40 and clean it up and you should see where the separation places are.....

Remember you will need a clutch pedal too!
