Does the fuel pump make noise?

used: I have a 87 325es and i cant seem to get any fuel in the lines on the engine.
So today I disconnected the the rubber hose from under the car that goes from the metal line to the bottom of the fuel filter (mine has the fuel filter in the engine compartment). And the I cranked the engine to see if any fuel came out it didnt. I left the key on the on position and went under and felt a little vibration on the fuel pump very little, and it was also getting very hot. What does that mean? Its been sitting for a long time so is it building pressure you think? So thats why Im wondering is the pump supposed to make a some type of noise like a buzzing sound like on some cars? And what are those small little filter like things by th pump? Could those be blocking the fuel traveling to the engine? I need some serious help quick!!!!!!!!used:

Don't forget you have two fuel pumps. Sounds like the fuel pump is gunked up or the transfer pump is shot or plugged. Pull your back seat and remove the transfer fuel pump access plate on the passenger side, then unplug the fuel level sending unit (4 nuts you have to remove this so you can pull the transfer pump) remove the transfer pump and check to see if the pump is working and look in side the tank for crudd..
