You just need a flat screwdriver and a clean cloth. You VERY CAREFULLY put the screwdriver between the badge and the hood (on which you put the cloth to prevent any scratching) and pry the badge off. After you've lifted it a bit, you can lift at another spot. It's quick and easy to do. Just take your time.
I've changed a few and I've never needed to get new rubber grommets. They're the rubbers in the hood used to hold the two... euh... nipples on the back of the badge.
I would say this would be the easiest way. I can't remeber if I punched it out from behind or if I got a good grip on it. I removed the trunk and the hood at the same time...
Like I said, I think Bob's suggestion is the easiest. Just make sure you're gentle, you're not rushing, and you've covered up the paint where you plan on sticking that flat head.
P.S. The "325i" badge, not the BMW emblem on your trunk has the adhesive that you were talking about before. That can be easily taken off with a heat gun/blow dryer and some floss (optional).
