1970's 2002 came in a production turbo version, there was a dealer supplied turbo in the 320is century turbo car. (They put out about 170 hp) To prove it was a true dealer turbo it should have the orginal federal smog papers. To my knowlage there is only about hand full of of these cars ever built. These cars are worth big bucks if it is an authentic dealer turbo.
It does look rough, and isn't in "stock" condition. But without a pic of the smog docs, or a clear photo of the turbocharger and manifold, I can't tell. As far as $2000 goes: "if" it's a real dealer installed turbo with the smog docs, hasn't been wrecked, wasn't molested too badly and wasn't owned by a smoker, it's an OK deal. However, from the pics I can see It does have its fare share of dings and rust so who knows how much rust is under the car. By the sounds of what he said and what I can see, it was neglected rather badly, so the cost of unfudging it and a decent resto must be taken into account. In the end you'll have to go and see it in person to really get a feel of it's worth.
