So I get inside my car this morning and all I see is wires hanging out of my center console. Wow, where is my radio?? Gone. Again.
Now my cluster is not working, RPM only is good but that goes up and down and my speakers are shot from getting it stolen before and doing half azd radio installations before. I am sick of this.

So, I got a garage now, storage one, right next to my house and I am wondering what speakers to install in my car. I am buying one of the ALPINE head units but can someone help me with some rear and front speakers only?? I have no clue which ones fit into the E30's. I also would not like to spend too much money on it sinche I do not care that much about my system being sick. Tx guys and go Pistons. I told everybody Miami isn't going to do smack.

I just installed 2 sets of the new Sony Xplode 4-way speakers in my 91 318is with an Alpine CDA-9847 head unit...6.5" in the rear dropped right in the existing holes....Had to cut out the kick panels in the front to get 6.5's to fit there and the hood release lever rubs on the speaker housing a little but it can be shimmed out.... A set of 5.25's would have dropped right in without mods....Check your local Walmart....They run around $60.00 a pair.....They do not list them online....And make sure they are the 4-way's....Some of the Wally World's still have the 3-ways in stock..

When removing the driver side kick panel, you will also have to remove the hood release lever to get the kick panel out.

Sonys suck. Boston acoustics and infinity kappa series all-the-way baby!

Being in the audio business myself (well, electronics, and dealing with the name brands) I have to concur, the Sony speakers blow unless you wire up Sony everything. Best cheap headunit is a Panasonic, or if you want to get into the good stuff for more money, get an Alpine. For speakers, it's Infinity, Boston Acoustics, or at the lower end, JVCs will suffice.

Of course, the sound quality improves tenfold with an amplifier behind it putting out about 50watts RMS per channel instead of the headunit's typical 12-16 watts. Sure, some units say 54 watts MOFSET power or likewise (my Panasonic says 45w) but that's peak per channel, not constant. RMS is the constant wattage. With an amplifier that pulls 50+ watts RMS, your peak goes up to 200 watts per side, or therabouts, depending on the amp.

Nothing beats the silky smooth sound of an Infinity speaker. If you're into heavier music, go for JBL, a little more optimized for that kind of thing.

That's my knowledge on the subject, thought I'd share.

PS: Sorry to hear about you shiznat getting stolen man. That blows. My condolences.

Ugh. I don't know much about speakers. But, I just want to say how much that sucks!! Not like car alarms do a thing... but I'd suggest getting one if you don't already. Like I learned from my old 84 jetta, it's the older cars that get jacked cuz they're less likely to have any sort of anti-theft stuff. I also kept my original faceplate in my bmw, now... no one's been after my tape deck so far ... and put a changer in the trunk...

Now what is up with this 2-way 3-way speaker stuff?? What is the difference and what is considered better?? I looked at some 5.25'' alpine speakers but am not sure what that 2-way stuff means exactly?? Tx.

By the way, I did not have an alarm in my car becuase I payed only 2k for the car and the instalation and cost of a decent alarm was too much considering I just bought some Falken's for $300 (the whole set). Yeah it sucks now but being broken into three times already tells me these guys don't give a crap about alarms.

The difference between two and three way speakers is pretty simple, I'll explain. Most mobile speakers of any quality are two-way speakers, that is: they take the incoming amplifier feed, and split it two ways, to a low-to-mid range cone, and a tweeter cone. Three way speakers offer more precise sound reproduction because they split the signal three ways: low tones, mid tones, and high tones, with a cone for each. Three ways can handle more RMS and peak power than two ways can. So you get better sound with three ways.

Falkens are pretty decent. I'd just wait it out if I were you man. Eventually they'll stop taking interest.
