Cold weather issues

I never knew about this issue coz I never drove my 1990 E30 in the snow. But the other night, I decided to take it out on the road, after it had rained. Ambient temp was about 40-45 degrees F out, and as I got it out onto the road, for some reason it didnt make power til i got it past 3500 rpms, which was a chore. It only did it that one time, after that it was fine. Engine is M20b25. What would cause this issue? Id like to know. It was almost as if it was out of gas, but it had some gas in it at that time. I also notice that if I start it when its cold out, and I go to rev the engine, it dies. It DOES NOT have a cold start injector. It is after the cold start injector had been phased out of the E30s.

Thumbs up Reply

The cold start valve adds more fuel to the start and cold run mixture for better performance when starting and first started. Then it shuts off. If it fails may be you will face some problem. So first see if you read line voltage from the wiring harness to the cold start injector when cranking after the car has sat overnight in cool weather.

My car faced the same problem year before and I take it to a BMW repair center for proper diagnosis. Actually in cold weather this problem seems very common with all the cars. Thanks for sharing the information with us.

This cool start valve contributes much more fuel for the start in addition to cool function mix intended for much better effectiveness any time starting off in addition to primary started off. Subsequently the idea turns away. When the idea does not work out can be you'll confront many trouble. Thus primary observe when you read range voltage on the wiring harness for the cool start injector any time cranking following auto has seated right away with great weather.
