if you cut the spring you lower the spring rate, so not only are they going to be lower and have less travel they will be softer making you more prone to bottoming out..
just save up and explain to your wife you dont want to buy something twice, you want to do it right the first time

My two cents
Nice choice. (I got ST springs)
Shorter and stiffer makes a huge difference.
Check the shock mounts while your in there, front and rear, they wear out.
If you replace the mounts do it right. (I'd suggest adjustables)
Shorter springs usually need shorter shocks to stay within the spec travel for the valving etc or they may may fail.
Seems Bilstien sports or Koni's are the only ones that last in these cars.
or maybe Sachs, so Ive read
Some say KYB or Tokico's fail (the Miata guy swears by KYB?)
I'm getting ST bars to go with my set up.
Kraut doesnt believe in sway bars LOL
BTW I just got Hawk HPS brake pads installed yesterday. So far so good.
(wifes pissed about the $$$ ...as usual)
Hint save up cash from lunch money split the bill at the shop ie $150 cash for parts then charge the $140 labor and then lie like hell ...
BMWCCA Autocross this Sat here is SD, wish me luck.
Maybe some day I'll be as fast as the Kraut LOL
Good luck.

$140 to install springs? LOL ya right, thats a 2 hour do it yourselfer, really hard to mess up installing springs, expecially the rears
for the rears, unbolt the bottom shock bolt, extend suspension down, pull out rear spring, lol
front is still only what 4 bolts? per side?
worst thing you will need for sport springs is a spring compressor, usually free to rent from any car parts store, with coil overs you dont even need that though cause theres no preload on the spring
