I am having some problems(running very rich and rough, dies after 10 minutes, no power) I need to read the code and find out what is out. I think it's the TP sensor or something like that. The check engine light dosen't come on, (I think the bulb is out) If I can get the bulb replaced how can I check the codes? It's an 84 318 Also the radio code is needed, someone pulled the battery and I don't have that either. HELP!
your car does not have a check engine light, there-fore it does not have self diagnostic capabilities so you wont be able to read any codes. They didnt have check engine lights until 86-87 when they came out with the "I" motor. as for your radio, you can call any BMW dealer and they can look up you code from your vin number
are you sure its running rich? check your plugs are they black or grey? or brown? black is rich grey is lean and brown is perfect. usualy cars idle better when running rich, unless its really really rich... might be your jets on your carb, get new ones and try that, or try playing arround with the adjustments on it.

Thanks, can you recomend a manual for trobleshooting and testing components for that car?
haynes makes a manual for it, but i dont know how useful they are, you can start by cleaning your idle valve and throttle body that may help some, you also may need a fuel pressure regulator
