Clutch Troubles

Ok, so here's the rundown: I have a 1990 325is with a manual transmission. My problem is that when the engine is running i can't shift it into gear, the shift stick just stops before i can get it into gear but it doesn't grind or anything. But when the engine is off it goes into all positions smoothly. I just replaced the slave cylinder but it didn't fix it. Anyone have some ideas of what to try next? Is it possible that I'm not bleeding it correctly? Is there a special way of doing it?

Its difficult to diagnosis this online I guess......you should be able to bleed it reasonably easy, using a tube on the nipple and into a pot of fluid, keep the reservoir topped up during the operation.

You may want to check all the bushes and links in the shifter mechanism.....

Perhaps its time for a clutch change?

Check the master and slave for any leaking as well as ther hydraulic lines. If there are signs of fluid leaking, replace the offending part. If all looks good, bleeding the system and inspecting all bushings and linkage as stated by Markdas is a great place to start. If bleeding does not solve the issue and all the bushings and linkages are in good shape, the only other alternative is to remove the transmission and inspect the clutch components.

Hi u seem to know alot abt clutches i have bmw e39 m5 when i do hard accelerations and the tires spin alot then the second gears slipps for three seconds then it engages again wat is my problem u think?if its clutch issue shell i replace it with the fly wheel or no need the fly wheel? Wat do u advice as an after market sport clutch for my m5 thanks in advance
