my clutch was even before quite loose but not as much as now. it does not engage until maybe half way through and then the pedal gets stuck there, so to put it back to regular position you have to pull it with your foot from the back. i was wondering whether this is just loose cable or what to check first. the clutch works fine even like that but it is quite bothering.
also, since this thing happened, in the morning when the car is cold, i usually go uphill and it seems like the clutch does not engage properly the first maybe 2 minutes, the car is a little jumpy in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear.

does anyone know what to look for??

as a clutch gets worn out it takes more and more travel to reach the engaging point, even if it doesnt feel like its slipping. as for there being a little "dead zone" when the clutch is let out, you may have air in the clutch/brake fluid system (which would also cause the brake pedal to feel mushy and sometimes require pumping to gain firmness).

Sounds like your clutch master cylinder is going out. My car did the same thing, I recomend you replace the clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder. Also BMW's use hydrolic clutch systems, no cables to wear out or adjust.

thx, i read up on it in bentley manual and it looks like it is maybe just some air in the hydraulic system, or the worse case, i'll have to replace the master&slave cylinders.
