I have an '88 325is, and i am trying to get a diagnostic code from the check engine light. I read somewhere that for 89-94 BMWs, the procedure is to turn the ignition to the 'engine run' position and depress the gas pedal five times. I tried this anyway just to cover all bases but it didn't work.

Can anyone help me?

it shuold work... just keep trying... dont do it too slow but dont do it super fast ethier...

Yours in the motronic 1.1, with that system you just turn the key forward and wait about 3 seconds then count the flashes.

Early systems (Motronic 1.1 only, I think) flash the fault codes automatically. If the check engine light comes on, leave the key in the On position, but dont start the car. The check engine light will begin to flash the code after about 3 seconds. Each flash is separated by about 1 second. There arent many codes on this system

1 flash......Air flow sensor malfunction.
2 flashes....Oxygen sensor malfunction.
3 flashes....Coolant Temp. malfunction.
4 flashes....Throttle switch malfunction.
