When the temp drops a little below freezing and I lock up, can't open the doors in the morning. Sometimes the key won't even go in, if it does and I try to turn it it will just start to bend it. So my question is: Is there a lube or a dust type product that will prevent this from happening?
WD 40 straight in the lock will sort it out to start with, then you need to get some silicone grease and smoother it all over the key, so you can get some in the lock.

I stepped in a plate of Pasta the other day - now I have to worry about my Carbonara footprint!
OK Crispy, since you asked me privately here's the reason for not using WD-40 for that application. It attracts and holds dirt and grime that will gum the lock assembly up worse than just frozen water will. Use white lithium grease if that's what you want to accomplish, but WD-40 is not a long term solution.
Actually I use a silicon based application for that kind of issue and I have to employ this frequently with an outdoor parked 325i in Chicago. WD-40 will just muck it all up eventually....believe me, I have learned this the hard way....best of luck
I waited too long, froze last night! I was able to get one rear door open and start it, but didn't want to wait 20 mins for the door mechiniziums to thaw. What if its not the locks, but all the other parts that are freezing up?
as you have answered your own question what else is there to comment upon? Are you sure you know what you are doing here? Appears to me as though you don't...you were just given a couple of options and obviously didn't follow any these choices.....what, if it's not the locks? what else could it be? Really...what else could it be?
Silver: its true that I did pm you. It is also true that you implied that I was "stupid" or "dumb" which ever it was I will not comment any further on any posts you involve your self in. If I am wasting your time, don't feel that you need to help me in any way in the topics I start. I was looking for help and now I will be looking for another bimmer forum.
I did nothing to deserve the treatment you have been giving me.
well, I don't know what's more insulting, you asking a question and recieving an answer for free (that you might not like the phrasing of) that will probably work, or taking the issue to a shop and getting hit for however hundred $$$. At any rate my answer is free and if you don't like my manner I'm sorry, but it's my manner. If you don't like my response simply disregard and move on I reckon.... sorry about that...but if I ask a serious question and need help I will take whatever is offered and nothing will be taken personally. But that's just me....personally I'm insulted that you are insulted....good luck
I say that Crispy is an old asshole and should removed from this site...who is responsible for site maintenance here? this is bullcrap garbage and I need to speak to the administrator as this is unacceptable. Please respond...cliff
it appears to me as though we are treading down paths that have been previously explored eh? perhaps i am mistaken via misleading timestamps and so forth....nevertheless...what?
you are talking about conversations that took place last February. As far as I know (where I live) it's damn near July...am I wrong here? Why is this even being brought up as an issue again? Was it not solved? Let me know
