I can't get my key past the first stop which just unlocks the steering wheel and power for lights. I removed the steering wheel and column cover on recommendation to unplug ignition switch. I was told it could be the switch or the tumbler. Anyone have experience with this problem? Can the ignition switch be disconnected just to get the key to turn all the way to start position?

If your key is SUPER old, it may be filed down. Try using the spare.
